Not to be confused with its mind-altering cousin, edible hemp Cannabis sativa seeds are rich, nutty seeds high in essential fatty acids like omega 3 and omega 6, particularly gamma linolenic acid, a super anti-inflammatory omega 6 fatty acid that helps balances hormones. It is also a complete protein source and often used as an ingredient for plant protein powders. The seed can be eaten raw sprinkled over salads, blended into smoothies or made into milk. As a protein powder, I find raw hemp protein one of the easier types to digest.
Hemp seeds contains delta-9-tetrahydrocannabinol (THC), the psychoactive ingredient found in marijuana and hashish. However, the THC levels in hemp seeds are minute and have very little intoxicating effects.
